About me

Hi, I’m Fabio — a physicist, technologist, and trader who believes that everything can be understood, tested, and improved through science.

My journey began with a deep curiosity about how the universe works — which led me to study Physics and later earn a PhD in Quantum Computing Simulations at University of Regensburg.  I spent years diving into the mathematics of quantum systems, exploring how computation could push the boundaries of what we know.

From Quantum Computing to Supercomputing Centers

After my PhD, I dedicated several years to research at Europe’s top supercomputing centers — including CINECA, Jülich Forschunszentrum, Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ), and the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF). There, I worked on large-scale simulations, quantum algorithms, and HPC systems that power some of the most advanced scientific discoveries in the world. I have published over 10 scientific articles in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Working in these environments taught me two things:

  1. How powerful computational thinking can be when applied rigorously, and

  2. How fragile even the most complex systems can become without structure and data discipline.

From HPC Centers to Big Tech

Eventually, I transitioned from research to industry, joining Intel Corporation and later Amazon Web Services (AWS) — where I helped companies and research institutions adopt HPC and Quantum Computing in the cloud.
Those years expanded my perspective: I saw how the same scientific principles that drive physics — modeling, iteration, optimization — also drive innovation in technology and business.

From Technology to Trading Journey

Around that time, I also discovered trading the financial market.

It started with a spark of curiosity — Could I use a physicist’s way of thinking to make sense of financial markets?

Five years later, that question still drives me.

In time, trading became my laboratory for understanding complexity — a dialogue between numbers and human nature. I approached it with the discipline of a scientist: model, test, observe, and refine, seeking order in the seeming randomness of the markets.

My focus now lies in quantitative trading, automation, and data-driven investment decisions — all grounded in a rigorous scientific method with the creative freedom I find in coding with Python.

Today

Today, I’m the Lead Cloud Consultant at MPCDF,  helping research groups modernize their computational infrastructure and run numerical scientific simulation through the cloud.

In parallel, I write about trading systems, options strategies, and using Python for algorithmic trading — topics at the intersection of finance and technology that I’m passionate about.

This blog is where I share what I’ve learned:

  • Building and optimizing trading systems using Python

  • Strategies and insights for options trading

  • Applying a systematic, scientific mindset to finance and algorithmic trading

What I Believe

I believe that clarity beats complexity, and that sharing knowledge is the best way to learn. I enjoy mentoring traders and developers who want to build robust trading systems or deepen their Python skills. I also write code, explore options strategies, and love helping others simplify complex trading concepts through clean, reproducible analysis.

If you’re curious about where systematic thinking, code, and markets meet — and excited to experiment along the way — you’ll feel right at home here.
